With the Modern Art Centre's current display as its backdrop, this tour explores the Portuguese period, traditionally referred to as “Modernism”. This visit employs the works of art, artists and contexts of the “modernist” period to bring Modernism's most crucial issues to light. By touching on central movements, such as cubism, expressionism, neo-realism or surrealism and the major figures that marked this period, such as Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso, Almada Negreiros or Mário Eloy, the tour offers a panorama of modernist artistic production and how it was experienced within the local art context.
