PRESENTATION OF THE PERMANENT COLLECTION
Floor 01 proposes a historical perspective on twentieth-century Portuguese art until the post-World War II movements. Starting with Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso's modernist works, and others by his contemporaries such as Robert Delaunay, who stayed in Vila do Conde during World War I, this circuit progresses through the 1920's until the 1960's, associating the figurative image, and its varying degrees of naturalism, with abstract or abstracting experiments.
Floor 1 features a selection of paintings by Portuguese and British artists, as well as some photographs and sculptures, grouped under the theme "Between Shape and the Human Figure". From the 1960's Pop and British painting, both of string figurative tradition, to the post-Pop and minimalist abstractions. The circuit is completed by a sculpture and drawings room.
